Chester Hampson was about 37 years of age and father of four children, the youngest a few months old. Mrs. Hampson, with the little ones, remained at home in Rifle while the husband and father came to Salida for an operation for appendicitis. This was three weeks ago and all was well until Wednesday when pneumonia developed and yesterday conditions were so grave that Mrs. Hampson was notified to come at once but she was unable to reach Salida before this morning. Chester died at 8:15 last night. Jeff Hampson, of Grand Junction, the only other absent member of the family, will also arrive this morning.
