Richard Aric Sims, Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma, died September 14, 2009, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after a short battle with cancer. Richard, the oldest of three children, was born on April 8, 1944, to Mose and Virginia Sims in Norman, Oklahoma. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1962 and Southwestern State University in 1967. Richard spent the last 30 years in Ft. Gibson where he was co-owner of R&S Equipment.
Richard is survived by Carol Sims, Ft. Gibson; daughters, Teresa Cochran and husband, David, Oklahoma City; Misty Sneed, Ft. Gibson; and Kathryn Plumlee and husband, Steve, Bixby, Oklahoma. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Arica Reeves, Oklahoma City; Kyndra and CheyAnne Johnson, Ft. Gibson; and Andrew, Landon, and Noah Plumlee, Bixby. Also surviving are Richard's brother, Steve Sims, Decatur, Texas, and sister, Janet Jackson, Hobart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mose and Virginia Sims of Roosevelt.
Richard enjoyed spending time watching his children and grandchildren play basketball and softball. He loved water sports and enjoyed taking his family to the lake. He was also an avid race car fan and owned and drove his own race car when he was younger.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 19, 2009, at Ft. Gibson Lake. Another service will be held at a later date at the Roosevelt Cemetery.
