He was deployed with the French contingent of NATO forces serving in Afghanistan.

He was killed when an improvised explosive devise destroyed the armoured vehicle he was driving in Kapisa province. Nine other French soldiers were injured and evacuated for treatment. Three remained in serious condition and Master Corporal Thomas Rousselle later died of his wounds. The soldiers were on a reconnaissance patrol to secure a route between Nijrab and Bagram.

Aged 24. He was originally from Saint-Denis, Reunion and joined the regiment in May 2005. Previously served in Côte d'Ivoire and Central African Republic. He held the bronze medal of the National Defence Medal and the Overseas Medal. He was also studying towards a medical degree. He was posthumously promoted to Master Corporal and awarded the insignia of chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, la médaille militaire and la croix de la valeur militaire avec palme.

Cpl Naguin is survived by his wife Ericka, their 15-month old son Noah, his parents, extended family and friends.

Repatriated to France on September 8, 2009 and a military memorial service was held in Vannes on September 11, 2009. The body of Cpl Naguin arrived on September 13, 2009 in Reunion for a funeral and burial on his native island.
