Thomas was the son of Nancy or Ann (1794-1839) and Robert Wallace (born in 1790).

He married Mary Ann Burnhope on April 9, 1859 in Gateshead, Durham, England.

Their children were: Annie 1860-1875, Thomas 1862-1863, Elizabeth Charlton 1865-1946, Samuel Burnhope 1867-1876, Josephine Egan 1870-1872, Robert Burnhope 1872-1872, Nancy Burnhope 1872-1872, Isaac Burnhope 1874-1875, Rebecca Burnhope 1874-1875, Joseph Burnhope 1877-1945, Mary Ann Burnhope 1877-1882.

He also married Elivra Stowell (1856-1876) on February 10, 1873 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

They had one child; William Stowell Wallace 1874-1898.
