On December 1st, 1864, there was born to Sarah Margaret and William Yates their fifth child, a daughter, whom they named Cora Lee. She was born on the Yates farm near Ridgely, Missouri. Here it was that she grew up into young womanhood and sitting at her mother's knee she learned of her mother's God whom she accepted at the Ridgely Church in the year of our Lord one- thousand-eighteen-hundred and eighty-two. According to her profession of faith she was buried with her Lord in Christian baptism in Dick's creek near this place. Thus she found her Lord early in life and served Him in the simplicity of that confession.
Here at the old place romance entered into her life and she met and was united in marriage to John W. Griffith, October 28, 1888, who survives the deceased. To this union were born five children: Karl, Alice, Mary, Georgia, and Willie. Of this family of five, two children remain to think of her very tenderly in the remaining years if their mortal appointment. Karl and Mary were the first of the family to go, having died in infancy and then Alice Aken and her husband who left a little grandchild, Margaret, whom the deceased and her good husband took to raise and who has been to them a loving daughter. There also survives along with their parents, Georgia Newman and Willie Griffith, two other grandchildren. Beside these if the immediate family there are also three brothers and four sisters to survive. This is also a great heartache for the aged mother, who approaching her eighty-seventh year has already laid away nine of her children. Heaven indeed is getting to be a dear place to her.
Mrs. Cora Lee Griffith died at her home, after a lingering illness of some years duration, July 9th, 1925, at the age of 60 days, 8 months, and 9 days. Ridgely has lost one of her pioneer citizens and best mothers. Earth's loss is the future's gain.
