Edward Kent Hagenow, 73, Greensburg, Ind., passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Care Facility, Columbus, Ind.
He was born June 20, 1936, in LaPorte to Herbert and Edna (Peters) Hagenow. He received his bachelor of arts degree in 1958 and his master's degree in 1964 from the Purdue School of Agriculture. He worked with the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service and served as youth extension agent in Benton County from 1958 to 1963, Hamilton County from 1963 to 1966, Jennings County from 1966 to 1971 and Decatur County from 1971 to 1972. He was district director for 18 counties and community development in 10 counties in southeast Indiana. He was an administrator with the Cooperative Extension Service for 16 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and served as chairman of the congregation, Elder & Evangelism.
He married Flora (Leisure) Hagenow on Oct. 15, 1966, in Carmel, Ind. She preceded him in death in 1995.
He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Hagenow, Denville, N.J.; two sisters, Monyean Hahn, LaPorte and Kathie Levy, Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, Herbert (Cathy) Hagenow, Rockford, Mich.; mother-in-law, Mary Belle Leisure, Carmel, Ind.; brother-in-law, Robert Leisure, Carmel, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation is at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg, Ind., from 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Monday. The funeral is Tuesday at 10 a.m. EDT at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Greensburg, with visitation at the church one hour prior to service. Burial is Wednesday at Westville Cemetery at 1 p.m.
