Mr. Dechant was born April 11, 1915, in Ellis. He was a maintenance supervisor for the city of Salina, retiring in 1977. Prior to moving to Salina, he was a farmer in Plainville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael; his mother, Dora (Fisher) Dechant; a sister, Mary Dechant; and four brothers, Zaccheus, Henry, Richard and Ralph.
Survivors include his wife, Julitta (Dinkel) Dechant, of the home; four sons, Marvin F. and wife Joan of Olathe, Ronald G. and wife Grace of Scotia, N.Y., Eldon M. of Salina and Leon R. and wife Jana of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Marietta Mason of Wichita; a brother, Paul of Larned; two sisters, Anne Arnold and Katherine Urban, both of Hays; eight grandchildren, Brena Armbrust, Dr. Bonnie Dechant-Torrez, Todd Mason,
Laure Kendall, Jessa Dechant-Anderson, John Dechant, Michael Dechant and Robert Dechant; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Salina, Kansas, the Revs. Kerry Ninemire and Harvey Dinkel officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina. Memorials may be made to OCCK, 1710 W. Schilling, Salina.
