Carl Andrew Keller was born in Lucas County, Iowa, September 25, 1897. He moved to Chicago as a young man and worked at the Western Electric plant there. When the depression hit, in the early 1930s, Carl, who remained single until he was 75 years old, was secure in his job at Western Electric. He saw that they were laying off younger men who had families, so he chose to quit his job so as to make room for someone who may have needed it more than he did. He then went prospecting for gold in Yuma County, Arizona. In the late 30s or early 40s he moved to San Diego, California where he was self employed as a painter. After his retirement in San Diego he moved back to his hometown of Chariton, Iowa. In 1973, he married Lottie Thomas at Chariton, Iowa. He had known her previously in Chicago during the 20s. He died at Chariton, Iowa on December 7, 1981, and is buried in Salem Cemetery, Lucas County, Iowa.
