Joseph C. Pruitt

Mr. Joseph C. Pruitt, 84 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009.

Mr. Pruitt was born in Bel Air, MD on June 15, 1925, son of the late Albert and Ella (Gunther) Pruitt. A veteran of the United States Navy, he proudly served our country during World War II. He was a long time member of Teamsters Local #326 and was employed as a truck driver with various companies, spending many years with Galloway Brothers. Mr. Pruitt was a faithful and active member of St. John the Beloved Parish, where he served as an usher at Sunday Mass and volunteered his time and talent in the construction of the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and achieved the rank of 4th Degree. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and Phillies baseball fan. Kind and generous, he was especially devoted to his loving family.

Mr. Pruitt will be dearly missed by is wife of 49 years, Margaret "Peggy" (Hozier) Pruitt; his son, Tom Pruitt and his wife, Chris; his grandchildren, Shannon Protas and her husband, Mark, Fran, Andy, Madison, Heather Tamminen and her husband, Mac and Toby Colella and his wife, Stacie; and his great-grandchildren, Julian, Tyler, Ava, Macee, Rylee and Roman. In addition, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Pruitt was predeceased by his 9 brothers; and 2 sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington on Monday, September 14, at 10 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Sunday, September 13, from 3-5 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Mr. Pruitt to St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilm., DE 19808.
