Anna June Severs, age 88, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born June 1, 1921, the daughter of William Henry and Ella Elizabeth Hennig Pieper near Hawkeye in Fayette County, Iowa.

She received her education from area country schools and graduated from Randalia High School in 1938. Anna June then went on to get her Normal Training Certificate at Upper Iowa University in Fayette and then she taught country school in Fayette County for two years.

Anna June was united in marriage with Warren Scott Severs on October 11, 1941, in Gallatin, Missouri.

They first lived in Ames while Warren finished his college education. She worked in a seed lab at Iowa State College during that time. They moved to Greene in 1943 for a year, and in 1944 began farming north of Clarksville. They moved into Clarksville in 1982.

Anna June was a member of Community United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women’s Society and had served on the Church Council. She was very active in the community, serving on the Butler County Extension Council, being a member of the Live and Learn Club, the Embroidery Club, and PEO.

Warren and Anna June were involved in Farm Bureau, and for six years they hosted Japanese farm trainees in their home.

Anna June was awarded the honor of being Iowa Master Farm Homemaker in 1972, and belonged to the Iowa Master Farm Homemakers Guild. She was also lifetime member of the Associated Country Women of the World. Anna June enjoyed gardening and taking care of her houseplants.

Her family recalls that she was a very hard worker and called her “the Queen of Moderation.” She relished time spent with her family, and her sense of humor was legendary.

Anna June died Sunday, September 6, 2009, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly, Iowa, of natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Severs on May 31, 1986; her parents; one son, William Scott Severs on October 17, 2000; one sister, Charlotte Pieper; and six brothers, Orlando, Milton, Russell, William, John and Paul Pieper.

Anna June is survived by one son, Douglas (Delores) Severs, Clarksville, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Mary (Herb) Freese , Allison, Iowa; six grandchildren, Sheila (Mark) Loveland, Cynthia (Kevin) Marx, Ella Severs, Laura Severs, Aaron (Kelly) Severs and Alina Severs; two great-grandchildren, Andrew Marx and Susanna Severs; two step-great-grandchildren, Christopher and Victoria Loveland, three sisters-in-law, Ruby Pieper, West Union, Iowa, Ruth Pieper, Hawkeye, Iowa, Dorothy Hurd, Park Rapids, MN, and one brother-in-law, Lester Severs, Dumont, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the Community United Methodist Church with burial in the Lynwood Cemetery both in Clarksville.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, (319)278-4245, and one hour before services at the church.
