Allen Lewis

Mr. Allen Lewis died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. M. Mason of New Salem last Staurday night at 11:15 after an illness of several weeks. He had suffered for more than a year with leakage of the heart.

Decease was born in Fayette county, November 20th, 1855 and died August 2nd, 1924.

He was married to Miss Ella Cook, May 31st, 1876 in Fayette County. Here they made their home until 1881 when they moved to Milam county, where they have lived since that time.

Mr. Lewis united with the Christian church at the age of twenty and always tried to live a Christian life. He was an honest, upright man and made friends and was loved by everyone.

To this happy union was born six children, Bennett G. Lewis, A. V. Lewis, Miss Lillie C. Lewis, Mrs. R. Mason, R. S. Lewis and Mrs. Retta Daniels, of which only three are living, A. V. Lewis, Mrs. R. M. Mason and R. S. Lewis, all of Rockdale.

Interment was at the New City cemetery Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jesse Garrett, pastor of the Baptist church of Rockdale.
