Samuel B Burkett was born April 3, 1874 in Missouri, and died in Gainesville Memorial Hospital, Gainesville, Texas May 5, 1964. He first married Rebecca Ann Guthery, daughter of Nathaniel Hagan and Sarah Jane Holt Guthery, in the early 1890's. To this union three children were born, Emmett, Arthur and Clementine. After the death of 'Annie' Samuel married Lula Harmon, a cousin of 'Annies', and daughter of John and Polly Ann Guthery Harmon. To that union two children were born, Birdie D Branski and Mamie L Garrison. After the death of Lulu, Samuel married Tommie Sue O'Gwin, daughter of Jesse and Lydia O'Gwin. Three known children were born to this union: Violet, and sons Denver and Froman. Tommie Sue had a daughter, Jewel Francis O'Gwin, born in 1905, that was listed in one census as a step-daughter to Sam, and as daughter in another census. In the 1920 US Census for Wayne, McClain County, Okla. most of Sams children are listed as residing in his household, and he is listed as a widow. The majority of his life he spent farming in various parts of the country. Samuel is buried in the Whitebead Cemetery, Garvin County, Oklahoma, near his three wives and some children.
