Alexander was the 5th son of James White, 1814-1866, & his 1st wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Teague. Alexander had such a massive file in N.A.R.A. that they wanted $93 just to copy it. This was in 1982. I hired a Certified Researcher, that lived near this Federal Archive in Washington, DC, and she copied what she felt was needed, for much less. The Military Pension Board would not give Alex a pension when he applied for it, reason: he served for such a short time and they stated he was ill when he joined. He claimed he was not but became ill from prolonged exposure to the elements. In attempting to prove that he was a man of good character and truthful, he named several people of Wayne Co., as witnesses for his good character, and their relationship to him. He named "Aunt Cassie White, she was married to his uncle. Then named some of his cousins, Wm Pinkney White, Raney & Frank Ward, his "Aunt Zena" Ferguson were also character witnesses. He named 3 of his 4 full brothers:
Valentine White, b.1835,Davidson Co, NC, d.1924,MO
Henry White, b.1837, Davdsn Co,NC,d.1863,AR
Luke White, b.1840, Davdsn Co,NC,d.1863,LA
The 1850 census of Guilford Co, NC showed the 3rd born son:
John White, b.1839, Davdsn Co,NC,d.1850-1860?
Alex never mentioned John but stated: "He was told that Henry & Luke both died of a lung disease during the War," Henry in Arkansas, and Luke died too, not specifying where Luke died. (Luke died in a Marine Hospital in New Orleans, LA in Apr 1863, per Rose Fulton Cramer's Book, WAYNE CO, MO., pub. 1972, and his military head stone. (Luke's stone found by Jerry White)
Henry's military cert. #202.334, stated he was a Sgt. under Capt. McMurtry, when he died on or about Jan 19th 1863, in Helene, AR. Neither Henry or John were listed on the 1860 census in Wayne Co, MO, as Valentine, Luke & Alex were along with Alex's half siblings. In Aug of 1860, Henry was in Forsyth Co, NC getting married.
