John and his family settled on the Pedernales River in Gillespie County. The 1850 US Federal census lists family members John, "Mary Ann", Christian and twins John and Adam. In the next household on the census, the Klein family continues with John Adam, Helene (Helen) Ellen, (Maria) Gertrude, and Mary Ann living with the Gottfried Heimann family, who would later become in-laws through Helene's marriage with Gottfried's son August Heimann.
In the 1860 census, the family consists of John, Mary, twins John and Adam, Nicholas, Gertrude and Jacob.
John died in 1869 and was buried on the land he had farmed for over twenty years. His descendants still live in Gillespie County.
