NAMPA — Dorothy N. Swenson, 77, of Nampa, died on Monday, Aug. 5, 1991, at a Petaluma, Calif., hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 1991, at the Nampa 3rd Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 504 11th Ave. North. Bishop Dale Bishop, a son-in-law, will officiate. Burial will follow at the Cloverdale Cemetery, Boise. Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel.

Dorothy N. Swenson was born Aug. 29, 1913, at Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Leland K. and Mary Vanetta Jackson Nelson. She was reared and educated at Ogden, graduating as salutatorian of her high school class. She attended Weber College and graduated from Utah State as a secondary school teacher. She taught school in Victor, Idaho, and Ogden, Utah, prior to her marriage to Leon Swenson on Dec. 23, 1938, in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. Three years after their marriage they moved from Ogden to Nampa, where they had since made their home.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of the L.D.S. Church and served in many positions in the Primary, Sunday School, M.I.A., Relief Society, and Genealogy Extraction. At the time of her death she was an ordinance worker in the Boise Temple.

She was a most special homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed good music and literature, family reunions and traveling with her husband across the United States and to many, places around the world.

Survivors include her husband, Leon H. Swenson of Nampa; five daughters and two sons, Dale and Susan Bishop of Nampa, Alan and Sharon Bingham of Boise, Carolyn McCloy of Sandy, Utah, Douglas and Suzann Swenson of Boise, Dayton and Eileen Call of Vacaville, Calif., David and Lucile Muncey of Post Falls, Idaho, and Leland and Karla Swenson of Nampa; 35 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a son-in-law, and two grandchildren.

The family will greet friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Alsip Funeral Chapel, and Friday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the church.
