Daniel J Lyons, brother of David Lyon of Leighton and Lydia Blake of Orangeville, died in this village on Wednesday at 9:30 am of pleurisy after an illness of less than a week. The funeral services were conducted by Eld MB Rawson yesterday at 10 am in the Hooker school house, Leighton.

The deceased soon after the war married Sarah Jessup of Orangeville but lived with her only a few years. She died in Prairieville recently. Had he lived until next February he would have been 51 years of age, he having been born in Huron County, Ohio. The deceased had been a resident of this vicinity for many years and was known by all the old residents. He was a soldier in the late war and was drawing a pension at the time of his death.

Daniel served as a Private with the 1 Michigan Engineers and Mechanics Company E. He enlisted on August 18, 1864 and was discharged on May 17, 1865.
