The son of George Dabney, Thomas married Lucy Walker and produced seven children. After she passed, he married second wife, Mary Eleanor Tompkins, and had two more sons. Thomas lived in King William County, where he practiced law. His home was called the "Dorrell".
His tombstone inscription reads, "departed this life July 21, 1858, in the hope of blissful immortality, about his last words being, thanks be to God who giveth us the victory in Jesus Christ".
