Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 17, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, French Avenue, in Gridley, for Marvilla Wilcox Little, 99, of Gridley, California. She passed away on August 12, 2009 at the Biggs Gridley Hospital after a short illness.

Marvilla was born in Vina, Tehama County, California, on April 2, 1910 to Samuel Franklin Wilcox and Luella Van Dam Wilcox. When she was just a few months old, the family moved to Gridley, where she spent her childhood at the family home on Block Road. She attended the West Liberty School on Block Road and church at the old L.D.S. meeting house on Social Hall Road. In 1926, she married Morgan Thurston Little. In 1949, Marvilla went to work as clerk and book keeper for the J.C. Penny store in downtown Gridley, where she became acquainted with most everyone in town. She loved people. After her retirement in 1975, she became very active in her Church.

She served as Relief Society President in the Gridley First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a mission to Texas. Upon returning from her mission, she attended the Spanish Branch for 13 years filling various callings, including Relief Society President. Later, she spent time as a librarian at the Gridley Family History Center. In 2001, Marvilla went to live with her daughter on Gilstrap Avenue, where they enjoyed early morning walks and became a familiar sight to those who passed by.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died in 1975, and her siblings: Elmo Lamar "Gov" Wilcox, Vivian Frank Wilcox, Virden Ray Wilcox, and Ila May Wilcox Johns.

She is survived by one son, Fred Thurston Little; and one daughter, Barbara Little Dukes, both of Gridley; eight grandchildren: Susan Little Thompson of Fallon, Nevada, Philip Michael Little, of Biggs, Allen Thurston Little, of Gridley, Shelley Dukes, of Scotts Valley, California, Mickey Dukes, of Magalia, California, Leslie Dukes, of Santa Rosa, California, Ken Collins, of Gridley, and Jeff Collins of Redding, California. She also leaves 13 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
