Obituary:
August Riese Sr. was born October 6, 1846, at Petznick, Pyritz County, Germany (Petznick name changed to Piasecznik, Poland after Potsdam convention of 1945), and ended his earthly pilgrimage at his home in Brodhead, Wis., January 1st, 1919, having reached the age of 72 years, two months and 25 days. One the 17th of September, 1871, he was united in marriage with Miss Ernestine Neeck and together they shared the joys and sorrows of life for over 48 years. To this union were born nine children, 3 of whom preceded him to the great beyond. The six remaining all of whom were near when the end came. They are: William Riese of Sauk Centre, Minn., August Riese, Juda, Wis., Herman Riese, Spring Valley, Reinhold (Wrennie) Riese, Sylvester, Mrs. H. W. Pinnow and Mrs. Hugh Hunt, both of Brodhead.

In 1872 in the prime of youth, they came to America and settled in the neighborhood of Juda and a few years later settled on a farm in the township of Sylvester. In 1880, they moved near Brodhead until his health failed and was obliged to give up hard work, and settled in Brodhead. Soon after they arrived in this country he became a member of the Evangelical Church and was an active and loyal member. He was intrusted with the highest offices and served them with the best of his ability. Being of a kind and peaceful disposition he was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his departure a wife, four sons, two daughters, two brothers, two sisters, twelve grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were conducted in the Evangelical Church Sunday at one p.m., Rev. J.C. Hoffmann and J.W. Zimmerman, officiating. He was a member of the M.W.A. in good standing for many years. Immediately after the sermon by Mr. Hoffmann the Woodman took charge and rendered a pretty service in honor of their departed brother. Music by Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Zimmerman and Mr. and Mrs. Hoffmann. Pall bearers were Messrs. August Bernstein, Wm. Post, Wm. Witt, Geo. Nix, Herman Sellnow, August Krueger.
