Joe S. Attlesey
Joe Shelton Attlesey, 69, Route 1, Yantis, died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital. Death followed a lengthy illness for the husband of County Clerk Mary Attlesey.
Mr. Attlesey was a retired salesman for Price Ford Sales.
Earlier, he was a widely known singer and formerly had radio shows on both Dallas and Shreveport, La. stations. He was a host of the "Early Bird Show" on a Dallas radio station. He and his brother Bob were the original Sunshine Boys. He and his brother also composed the song, "Just Because"
Mr. Attlesey was one of the founders of the Reilly Springs Jamboree, which was a popular and long-running local program.
He was a member of the Seymore Church of Christ.
Mr. Attlesey was married to Mary Sartin on Sept. 22 in Dallas. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Linda Fails and Mrs. Laura Teer, both of Sulphur Springs; a son, Joe T. Attlesey of San Antonio; three brothers, Robert S. Attlesey of Dallas and Finis Attlesey and Merle Attlesey, both of Sulphur Springs; three sisters, Mrs. William (Annie) Stalcup of Ft. Worth, Mrs. Elizabeth Allison of Sulphur Springs, and Mrs. Billie McCullough of Grand Prairie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home chapel, with Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Seymore Cemetery.
