George Davis, 75 years Old, Dies


George W. Davis, age 75, of Pleasant Green died Jan 9, 1934. George Washington Davis, son of the late George W. and Nancy Stapp was born October 20, 1858 at Ozark, Christian County, Missouri.
On October 7, 1906 he was married to Miss Nellie Tavenner. To that union were born three daughters, Dorothy and Ida May of the home and Mrs. Cecil Durbin.
Besides the widow, and three daughters he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Alice Brookshire of Pueblo, Colorado; one brother, W.B. Davis of Pleasant Green and two grandchildren, Bobby and Roy Durbin. Mr. Davis was one of eleven children, five sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
Mr. Davis has been a member of the Pleasant Green Methodist church since 1887 and has lived a devout Christian life in this community.
Mr. Davis departed this life Tuesday, January 9, at his home near Pleasant Green after a brief illness.
He had been a sufferer of asthma for a number of years but was not thought to be worse than usual until a few days before his death when he developed a severe cold, on the day before his death he was thought to be somewhat improved and enjoyed a good dinner passing away suddenly in the afternoon. Mr. Davis had been blind for a number of years. Funeral services were held at Pleasant Green church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Rev. H.H.S. DuBois. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Oscar Riggs, Verne Riggs, William Eckerle, Henry Eckerle, E.H. Tavenner and George Cooper.
