Jazz Musician. A pianist, he established himself as one of the top artists to hail from Chicago during the 1950s and 1960s. He was educated at the Northwestern University School of Music. In 1959, he led his own trio and performed at some of Chicago's most noted clubs including the London House, and shared the bill with such music greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Oscar Peterson and Cannonball Adderley. In addition, Higgins achieved prominence recording with Coleman Hawkins, and released several solo albums with the Sunnyside record label. He was married to jazz vocalist Meredith d'Ambrosio, with whom he would often perform. He gained an international following, most notably in Japan. He died from cancer.
