Amanda was first married to Samuel Johnson, listed as a "teamster" in Waynesboro, Wayne County, Tennessee, in the US 1870 census, while Amanda is listed as "keeping house". Her sister Nancy or "Nannie" Ashcroft is listed as "assisting in house" a few doors away with another family. The 1870 census lists Samuel and Amanda's marriage date as 1869. In 1872, they became the parents of Artie Mae Johnson. By 1877, however, Amanda is married to Lemuel S. Wright and had two more children, Ada Lee (in 1878) and Susan A Wright (in 1889). There is no further information about Samuel Johnson and what may have become of him.
Besides the short time in Wayne County, Amanda lived most of her life in Decatur County, Tennessee, finally moving with her second husband to Lincoln County, Tennessee where she died and is buried in Elora Cemetery beside Lemuel Wright.
