The son of Francis John Lindesmith and Lucetta Elizabeth Momenteller (burial place unknown); the grandson of John Lindesmith and Anna Mary Boyer.

He was born in Columbiana Co, Ohio, in 1842, where his great-grandfather, Joseph Lindesmith had settled in 1807. He lived for a short time in Indiana with his father's family, who in 1855 were in Jefferson Co, IL.

He met 16-year-old Amanda Doolen of Marion Co, IL and since her father would not give consent to their marriage, she eloped with him in 1867. Jerry stole her from her father's house by having her climb out the kitchen window and then he took her away on horseback. They rode 70 miles to St. Louis to get married. Her brothers pursued her on their horses, but didn't catch up to them.

Jeremiah was a bit of a wanderer and he & Amanda lived in many places during their life together, but the Lindesmiths were a close family, and often moved together as a group.
In 1874 they were in Fayette Co, IL (Jerry's mother, Lucetta, died there in 1878).
1878 in Marion Co, IL.
1880 in Foster, Marion Co, IL.
In 1880 they moved to Douglas Co, Mo, probably with his brothers and sisters.
Sept. 29, 1889 they were in Galena, KS (near Joplin, MO, maybe just visiting)
In Douglas Co, Mo. in 1899 where their son, Johnny met and married his wife, Myrtle Pease.
In 1900 they were in Brush Creek township of Douglas Co.

About 1901 Jerry & Amanda moved to Texas near siblings Newton, Alice, and John's widow Mary. All the Lindesmiths (Newt, Alice, John's Mary, Jerry & Jerry's son Frank) probably moved to Oklahoma soon after that and worked in the oil fields.
In 1906 son Frank was living in Wynnewood (Murray Co), Oklahoma.
Jerry & Frank moved "back from Oklahoma" about 1910 and settled in Bethany, Douglas Co., MO.

Johnny built a little house on his place for Jerry & Amanda to live, then when Johnny moved to Mt. Ararat in 1918, Jerry moved with them and Johnny built then another little house up the hill from them.

Jerry died in the fall of 1920 (of cancer of the mouth). His obituary spoke of his religious conversion. Johnny's obituary says Jerry died about 2 years before Johnny, who died in 1924.
Johnny put his mother's little house on logs and rolled it down the hill and into his backyard where Amanda lived until Johnny died in 1924 and Myrtle moved away. Then she lived with her daughter Minnie until she died of influenza, March 3, 1929 in Richland township, Douglas Co, Mo.

Jerry & Amanda were both buried at Mt. Ararat Cemetery in Douglas Co. beside their son Johnny & his wife Myrtle; their son, Frank; their granddaughter Maymie & her husband, Albert Willard; and their great-granddaughter Mary Frances Willard Kohler.
