Lorraine C. Nikolai
Lorraine Clara Nikolai (nee Goeden), 94, formerly of 701 Humboldt Ave., Wausau, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.

Lorraine was born Feb. 20, 1910, in Wausau, daughter of the late Theodore and Catherine (Groff) Goeden. She married Jacob Nikolai on July 4, 1933. He preceded her in death Jan. 24, 1981.

Lorraine was a former saleswoman for Avon and the Industrial Aid for the Blind (Milwaukee). She was actively involved with various community and civic projects, organizations and fund-raising drives. Locally, she was a member of the Rosary Confraternity and the Parish Council of Catholic Women at St. Michael Catholic Church, NCTI Homemakers Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary No. 64, Republican Women and Wausau Senior Citizens. For many years, Lorraine was an active member of the Wausau Writer's Club and later the Wausau Regional Writer's Association. Her works have been published in several books and she was accorded recognition by the many biographical publications in which she is listed.

Lorraine's personal life philosophy: "To challenge is to achieve, to be creative."
Lorraine was a remarkable woman of conviction, courage and compassion. She is deeply missed.

Besides her parents and husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by three sisters, Cecilia, Anna and Elsie; and three brothers, Bernard, George and Lorence.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church. There will be a parish rosary service at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
