James O Haines was born in Ohio in 1845. He was the youngest child of Chalkley Haines and Sarah Morgan Haines. After the death of James's father in 1852, the family moved to Iowa. In 1871, James, his mother, and most of his siblings moved to Oregon. After 1910, James moved to Okanogan County, Washington where he died in 1926.
