Funeral Services for John Pinkney Emory, 70, of Ivy Hill section, near Stockville, died at his home after a long illness, will be conducted at 10:30 O'clock at Ivy Hill Baptist Church.

John Pinkney Emory, son of the late, John Baze Emory and Minerva Harrison Emory. They are buried at Emery - Lindsey Cemetery, Glassy, Greenville County, South Carolina.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Harriett Buckner Emory; seven sons, Broadus Lee Emory of Mars Hill, Richard Furman Emory of Barnardsville, Benjamin Franklin Emory of Morristown, Tennessee, and Squire Jefferson Emory, Wilburn Leonard Emory, Sr., Woodson John Emory, and Arnold Glenn Emory of Stocksville; two daughters, Esta Virginia Emory Deaver of Ivy, North Carolina, and Pansy Delora Emory of Stocksville, North Carolina; one sister, Martha Emory Blackwell of Greenville, South Carolina; 29 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Emory was well known in Buncombe County and took an active part in church work in his community.

Rev. W. M. Fleming, Rev. Wayne Peek, Rev. Harley Phillips, Rev. William Edwards and the Rev. R. R. Phillips will officiate.

Active pallbearers will be Clyde Carson, Marvin Moss, Folsom Morgan, Grady Brown, Cecil Buckner, and Carson Hensley. Honorary pallbearers will be John Whitt, D. G. Hensley, J. W. John Pinkney Emory, left Greenville County, South Carolina as a young boy. When he came to North Carolina, he changed the spelling of his name from EMERY to EMORY, he boarded and worked for the Blackstock Family in Stocksville, Buncombe County, North Carolina. He had a half-brother, Mack Moss who lived near the Robert Vance Blackstock Family.

John and Harriet Buckner Emory, Henry Lee and Louise Carter Gibbs, John Whitt, Cornelis and John Henry Whitt and John Brown were the Founders of Ivy Hill Baptist Church. Henry Lee Gibbs and Louise Ellen Carter Gibbs were Methodist, but they helped get Ivy Hill Baptist Church started. Their daughter Cora Matilda Gibbs married Broadus Lee Emory, son of John and Harriet Emory.

John Pinkney Emory, Mother, Minerva Harrison, was married twice, first husband was John Moss.
