Henry Spies was born in June, 1860, in Rochester, Monroe County, New York, the 9th child and 9th son of the eleven known children of Jacob Spies and Catharine Reinhardt Spies. Henry led a brief life. He died of dysentery just one year and three months after his birth, in late September, 1861. He was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in the Jacob Spies family plot, Section S, Lot 90, on 1 October 1861.
