Carroll O. Milstead, affectionately known as "Snooks," departed this life at Civista Medical Center, LaPlata, MD. He was born the fifth of nine children in Chicamuxen, Maryland to the late Irvin, Sr. and Maud Milstead.

He attended Chicamuxen Elementary School and went on to graduate from Pomonkey High School in 1941. After graduation, Carroll worked at the Civilian Conservation Camp for a short time before going to work at the Naval Powder Factory in Indian Head in 1942. On June 2, 1943 Carroll was inducted into the United States Army where he served until his honorable discharge on January 10, 1946. After his stint in the service, Carroll went to work at the Navy Yard for a year before returning to the Naval Powder Factory in 1949 where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1979. After his retirement, he spent five years with the Charles County School Board and retired from there in 1985.

Snooks was a long time member of the Mattawoman Rod and Hunt Club where he won many trophies for trap shooting. He also spent his time hunting and doing carpentry work. In addition to hunting and shooting, his hobbies included dancing and listening to his brother Royce's "Smat" jokes. In his younger days, he enjoyed dancing with his many nieces doing his famous "foot kick."

In addition to his parents, Irving, Sr. and Maud Milstead, he is also preceded in passing by three sisters, Naomi Lloyd, Thelma Bond and Victoria Washington and one brother, Irving Milstead, Jr.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Joan "Donnie," son, Gordon Thomas (Elaine), three daughters, Sandra Williams, Keysha (Martin) Hart and LaShawn Cobey, three step-daughters, Carolyn Tibbs, Rose and Barbara Lee, three sisters, Ethel Thomas, Ruth Simmons and Regina Ross, and one brother, Royce (Donza) Milstead.

His viewing was held July 6th, until time of Service, at Thornton Funeral Home Chapel, Indian Head, Maryland. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.
