Former Seneca Farmer Died at Marysville
Frank Osterhaus, 81, died at 11 o'clock Monday morning, January 19, in the home of his son, Henry Osterhaus, at Marysville. He had been in failing health about two months. His death was due to old age and complications. Mr. Osterhaus
lived for 25 years on a farm south of Seneca.
Frank Osterhaus was born October 16, 1866 in Germany. He came to the United States and Nemaha county when a young man and worked as a farm hand in the community north of Seneca. He was married in Seneca about 57 years ago to Lena Lamping. After their marriage Mr. Osterhaus purchased his own farm in the community south of Seneca and lived there until his retirement about 24 years ago when he and Mrs. Osterhaus moved to Marysville. In Marysville, Mr. Osterhaus kept a team and did considerable work about town until the death of his wife, December 13, 1940, when he went to make his home with his son, Henry.
Fifteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Osterhaus, ten of whom died in infancy. Those who survive are Henry and Barney Osterhaus, and Mrs. George Mathewson of Marysville, Joseph of Seneca and Frank of Omaha. There are 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One brother, Henry Osterhaus, north of Seneca, also survives and Mr. Osterhaus may have one sister living in Germany.
The funeral was held at nine o'clock Wednesday morning in St. Gregory's church, Marysville, with Rev. Father Reich saying the requiem mass. The body was brought to Seneca for burial in Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery. Grandsons, Clarence, Vincent and Joseph Osterhaus Jr., Seneca; Edwin Osterhaus, Omaha, and Elmer and George Mathewson, Marysville, were pallbearers.
