OBITUARIES - Leva Rich
BLACKFOOT - Leva Gutting Rich, 81, widely known area musician, died Monday at Pingree of a heart attack.
She was the widow of Chase Rich, Pingree area teacher and farmer, whom she wed Oct. 3, 1912 at the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died in 1958.
Mrs. Rich will be remembered for her musical and dramatic talents which she exhibited in Bingham County from its earliest days to the time of her death. Her musical abilities grew under the tutoring of John Williams, author of the widely used piano book series at Tacoma, Wash. She played by ear musical accompaniment for Blackfoot's first silent movies.
In school, she served as captain of Blackfoot's first girls basketball team.
Her father, after retiring as a railroad engineer, became the first owner of the Blackfoot Hotel, Saloon, Dining Hall and water supply. He later sold it to buy a ranch, store and post office at Yuma where Mrs. Rich managed the mail, picking it up from the train and delivering it on horseback to area residents.
A member of the LDS Pingree Ward, she participated in church activity through her lifetime. She served as Sunday school organist for over 60 years and was also the organist for the Parson's chapter, Daughter of the Utah Pioneers. She taught Sunday School and was mutual president, drama director and judge of elections for many years.
She was also involved in political and community affairs.
She served as accompanist for her four daughters, The Rich Sisters, who have performed for over 1,000 funerals, weddings and other functions.
Mrs. Rich's survivors include four daughters and two sons. Mrs. Walter G. (Barbara) Hoge of Blackfoot, Mrs. Lyle (Elna) Sulzle, of Riverside, Mrs. Ivan (Ruth) McPherson of Pingree, Mrs. Bill (Monna) Poole of Pocatello; 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Compton Daniel Gooding of Salt Lake City and a sister, Mrs. Dewey (Valine) Blackburn of Springfield.
Funeral services were conducted today at the Thomas Ward LDS Church by Bishop Clyde Neibaur of the Pingree Ward. Burial is at Riverside-Thomas Cemetery[Published in the "Idaho State Journal," Pocatello, Idaho, Thursday, July 6th, 1972, Page 2 - MDP]

Back From Honeymoon
Mr. and Mrs Heber C. C. Rich, accompanied by Miss Leva Gutting and Chase Rich of Rich Idaho, returned from Salt Lake City last Thursday evening in the auto. Miss Gutting and Chase were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 2nd, and have been spending their honeymoon in Salt Lake visiting with friends. They took the motor Friday morning future home. Their many friends wish them a long an happy married life and one of porsperity. [Published in "The Blackfoot Optimist," October 14, 1912. ]
