Sister to Josiah Rice, also to their older brother Ephraim Rice, who migrated with them. Niece of the First Lady of Ohio, Persis (Rice) Putnam, wife of Brig. Gen'l Rufus Putnam founder of the 1st permanent white settlement in Northwest Territory at Marietta OH, 1788. They immigrated from Vermont about 1835 and established Meekersville, Michigan before it became Leslie.
