Martha was the daughter of Abednigo & Mary (Jessee) Kiser. She married Joshua Counts (the son of John Counts Jr. and Margaret "Peggy" Kelly) in Russell Co, Va, sometime before 1826.
Their children were: Sylvia "Sib," born, Oct. 5, 1826; Elijah Shelby, Feb. 10, 1828; Mary "Pop," Nov. 12, 1829; Noah, April 26, 1831; Margaret, March 12, 1833; Joshua T., Oct. 23, 1835; & Martha, March 2, 1838 (died 12 May 1839 at 1 year of age).
Joshua & Martha lived south of the Clinch River on Land willed to him by his father (present site of Cleveland). She was a member of the Reeds Valley Baptist Church. Her premonition of approaching death & expressions of devot faith during her last illness were recorded in a small booklet probably published by her oldest son, Elijah. Her descendants treasure these memoirs today. (Page 195 in "Some Descendants of John Counts of Glade Hollow.")
