"Virginia Vance Husband, 85, died peacefully August 23, 2009. She was born in Provo, UT Sept. 12, 1923 to Arthur A Vance and Stella Jean Nelson. Although she graduated from Provo High School, she spent much of her youth on the family farm in Idaho. After attending one year at Brigham Young University, she entered the U. S. Cadet Nurse Corps in 1943 and graduated from Salt Lake County General Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. During this time, she met Dale LeRoy Husband and they were married July 1, 1944 in Gulfport, Mississippi, where Dale was stationed. They were blessed with four daughters and a son, Sally Jo, Becky Sue, Pamalee, Jill and David Dale.

Virginia valued education and earned several degrees including a Masters in Social Work. In her professional career she was a Registered Nurse, Clinical Social Worker and private practice Marriage and Family Counselor. A consummate advocate and true crusader, Virginia championed causes and affected many changes for the social good.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years; children: Sally Jo Duncan (Michael), Sandy UT; Becky Sue Evans (Thomas), Washington, UT; Pamalee Jewell (Larry), Washington, UT; Jill Day (Michael), Murray, UT; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren (with 2 on the way). There are numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. Surviving siblings include Dorothy Margaret Costner (Burt), Stockton, CA; Jesse Diamond (George), St George, UT; and Richard Vance (Lorraine), Pleasant Grove, UT. She is preceded in death by son, David, her parents, four brothers, Merle, Morris, David, and Weston Vance, and sister, Argene Olsen (Delon).

Viewings will be held Tues., Aug. 25, from 6-8 pm at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W St. George Blvd., St. George, UT 84770 and Thurs., Aug. 27, from 6-8 pm at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S State Street, Midvale, UT 84047. Funeral Services will be held Wed., Aug. 26, at 11 am at Washington 8th Ward, 466 E Mangum Road, Washington, UT 84780 and Fri., Aug. 28 at 11 am at Granite 2nd Ward, 9245 S Quail Run Drive (2360 East), Sandy, UT 84092. Interment will follow this service at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E 4580 S., Salt Lake City, UT 84117. Arrangements entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary 435-673-4221. The family would like to thank Comfort Cottage and Applegate Hospice for their tender care." Obituary
