Jonas is the son of Elijah Shelby & Catherine "Katy" (Rasnick) Counts. He was the 2nd of their 12 children.

He married Pricey Jane Edwards, the daughter of Andrew "Andy" Jackson & Christina Lucretia "Crissy" (Deel) Edwards, in Buchanan Co, VA, on September 12, 1872.

Information from "Some Descendants of John Counts of Glade Hollow" by Hettie Sutherland (E-651 - page 223)indicates that Jonas was born at Clinchfield, Russell Co, and that he and Pricey lived at Aily. He was a farmer, business man and teacher. He took the first school census in his community in 1870. He served as deputy sheriff from 1883-85; was U S Commissioner from 1885-86; was Comissioner of the Revenue from 1899-1903; and serves as a Justice of the Peace from 1891-95.

Jonas & Pricey's children were: Elijah LaForce, born June 11, 1873; Andrew Jackson, Feb. 15, 1875; Samuel Graham, March 29, 1876; David Demos, March 15, 1878; Mary "Polly" Anne, Dec. 27, 1880; Crissa Catherine, about 1882; Nannie Ethel; William H., about 1885; Benjamin Harrison, April 15, 1890; Rosa, about 1892; Noah Walker, Oct. 3, 1893, & Lillie Alafair, Dec. 12, 1895.

Pricey died on Feb. 21, 1897, age 41. Jonas then married to Elizabeth Artrip Kiser, the daughter of Jasper & and Mary (Smith) Artrip. They didn't have any children.

Jonas died on Dec. 2, 1922.
