Martha is found in the 1860 and 1870 Census. She came to Texas before she was 15.She married a very wealthy man, Thomas Adkins. She always wanted to dress her mother in lovely clothes. One time when she came to visit her mother she brought her five silk dresses. Dorothea was alway sitting in her rocker with her silk dress on and her little black cap with a black silk ribbon attached to the cap and tied under her chin. After her father died Martha tried to get her mother to come and live with her and Thomas, but Dorothea would not leave her son Henry who still lived at home.
