"A WELL KNOWN LADY GONE TO LAST REWARD - Mrs Benjamin Davenport Has Passed Away - Mrs Mehitable Jane (Hunter) Davenport, whose death at the home of her daughter, Mrs Cynthia D Force of May avenue, at 3:20 o'clock yesterday morning was briefly mentioned in Wednesday's issue of the Herald, was well and favorably known throughout this section where the greater part of her life was passed and where she enjoyed the high regard of a wide circle. Mrs Davenport had for a long time been an invalid though the direct cause of her death was paralysis. In December, 1911, Mrs Davenport was first stricken with the dreaded ailment and her entire right side was involved. About three months ago she sustained a second attack of the trouble which rendered her almost helpless, and ten days ago the third stroke rendered her speechless, sightless and immovable. In this state she remained until death came as a welcome relief to terrible sufferings of long standing. Mrs Davienport, who was about 82 years old, was born in Tidioute in 1831, and was the daughter of Mr and Mrs William Hunter. About the year 1848 at Tidioute she was married to Benjamin Davenport, who died at Spartansburg about twelve years ago. Shortly after the marriage the young people came to Centreville where their early married life was passed. From there they went to Spartansburg where Mr Davenport passed away and where they lived until after Mr Davenport's death and Mrs Davenport's removal to this city to take up her residence with Mrs Force, about a year and a half ago. The deceased is survived by one son, Charles Davenport of Youngstown, O, and a daughter, Mrs Force, with whom she passed her declining years and at whose home she received every care and attention during her terrible affliction. Another daughter, Mrs Warren Kinney, passed away at Spartansburg last October. Mrs Davenport also leaves to mourn her death a brother, William Hunter of Tionesta, and four grandchildren, Mrs Susie Winans of Spartansburg, Roland Davenport of Bisbee, Ariz, Roy B Davenport of Youngstown, O, and Frederick W Force of Titusville. Brief prayer services will be conducted at the home of Mrs Force, 35 May avenue, at 4:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Rev W P Murray of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating. The remains will be taken to Spartansburg where services will be conducted at the Methodist Episcopal church at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon by Rev Mr Garnett, following which interment will be made in the Spartansburg cemetery."
