Death of Aged Mrs. Alt.
A recent issue of the Ottawa (Putnam County) Sentinel contained this:
Last week, Wm. Alt, of this place, was called to Reedtown, Seneca country, this State, to attend the funeral of his mother who died on the 10th inst, at the advanced age of ninety years. The deceased came to this country in 1833 and settled in Crawford county, this State, where she resided until she became a widow, some sixteen years ago, when she made her home with her daughter in Seneca county. She was the mother of thirteen children, of whom eight are now living. At the time of her death she had eighty-one grandchildren and forty great-grand children. Among her children residing in this county are: Wm. Alt, of this place, and John Alt, of this vicinity, and Mrs. Geo. Faeth, of Miller City. The deceased was highly respected by all who knew her, and in her death the sons and daughters have lost the wise counsel of a truly good Christian mother. The bereaved have the sympathy of all.
Some people think that Anna Bernarding married Johann Peter Steffan. Anna Bernarding and Johann Peter Steffen were never married. The record in the church records is marked as never completed. Something occured that didn't allow them to marry. No reason is given. She married John Alt 2 yrs later in Eppelborn, Saarland. They went on to have 13 children. They immigrated to the USA in 1833 and lived in North Central Ohio
