Ruth Van Genderen, age 71 of Monroe, died Sunday, August 23, 2009 at her home near Monroe. Funeral services for Mrs. Van Genderen will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church with burial following at Silent City Cemetery of Monroe. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at the church from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Monroe Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Pella. The daughter of Nelis and Esther (Van Zee) Bensink, Ruth was born on November 13, 1937 in Pella. Ruth grew up in rural Pella until 1949, at which time her family moved to rural Monroe. She was a graduate of Monroe High School. On November 25, 1955 Ruth was united in marriage with Russell Van Genderen in Pella. Ruth spent her days as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker for her family. She also worked as a receptionist for the Pella Medical Center for over 20 years. Ruth was a talented quilter and a master gardener. She was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church.

Those left to honor her memory are her husband, Russell Van Genderen; children, Rodney Van Genderen and his wife Jeanne; Rhonda Van Genderen; and Rick Van Genderen and his wife Lisa; grandchildren, Brian Van Genderen; David (Summer) Van Genderen; Christopher (Kayce) Culbertson; Elizabeth (Ryan) DeHaan; Jeniece Culbertson; Gerrit Van Genderen; Andrew Van Genderen; and Natalie Van Genderen; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry Bensink; two sisters, Marjorie Wilcox and Darlene Van Hal. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents.
