Mrs.Ida E.Armstrong, wife of W. C. Armstrong, died at 3:40 Tuesday afternoon at the family residence,309 W. Prairie Ave. Her death was caused by diabates,with which she had long been a sufferer. She became ill last December and her death was not unexpected. She was under the care of a trained nurse and until recently was able to take automobile rides and short walks but during the past few weeks had been confined to her bed.
Mrs. Armstrong was one of the best known women in Decatur. From her girlhood days she had been prominently and actively connected with the social, religious and musical life of the community. She made friends of all whom she met and friendships once formed were always retained. Her greatest interest was in her home and family.
Mrs. Armstrong was for more than fifty years a member of the First Methodist church and was one of the most active of the members, taking a leading part throughout her life in almost everyone of the various womens organizations. She was for years president of the Ladies Aid and society held offices and was a prominent worker in the Foreign and Home Missionary societies. For several years she was chairman of the music committee and was engaged also in numerous charitable enterprises.
She was greatly interested in music throughout her life and waa herself a musician of considerable talent during the early part of her life. When a young woman she was a member of the First Methodist church choir and after leaving the choir, continued her efforts in behalf of he church music as a leader of the music committee. She was a member of the Decatur Musical club and took much interest in the vocal talent of her daughters, Mrs. Ida Irene Funk, Miss Eleanor Armstrong and Mrs. Florence Chapin.
Mrs. Armstrong was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome R. Gorin. She was born Aug. 29, 1853 and was almost sixty two years old. Her parents lived on W. Prairie ave. at the time of her birth and she lived on the same street during her entire life. She was married to William C. Armstrong, Oct. 16, 1873 and four children wee born to them. William J. Armstrong, Jr, Mrs. Ida Irene Funk, Mrs. Florence G. Chapin and Miss Eleanor Armstrong. She leaves besides her husband and children, two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Emma Middleton, Orville B. Gorin, Jerome P. Gorin and Mattie A. Gorin.
The funeral will be held at 5 oclock Thursday at the family residence. The interment will be in Greenwood.
