He married Caroline Lena Bonnet on 04/01/1888 in Castell, Llano County, Texas.

He died at the Fly Gap Community, Mason County, Texas
Frederich 'Fritz' Durst was the son of Johannes 'John' Durst, Jr. and Catherina Strackbein. John, Jr. emigrated with his family in 1846 and obtained property in Gillespie County. Later John, Jr. and Catherina moved into Mason County. Fritz settled in the Fly Gap area along with several of this brothers. Fritz met and married Caroline Lena Bonnet and here they reared their family.

Fritz Durst is remembered as a jolly man who loved to sit on the porch in his rocking chair while he chewed tobacco and whittled. The Dursts were a fun-loving lot and enjoyed the dances held at the Fly Gap school, the school that all of the Durst children attended. Fritz was a teamster who drove a team of oxen and hauled freight. He was also involved in the relocation of soldiers from Ft. Mc Kavett to Ft. Concho in 1883. He encountered hostile Indians several times during the course of his teamster days, including one particularly hair-raising experience around Kickapoo Springs, however Fritz emerged from the fray unscathed. He suffered a stroke on December 07, 1941, the day that Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese; the elderly gentleman never knew that the United States ultimately went to war with Germany; he always declared that this would never happen. Fritz died at his home in Fly Gap cared for by his wife and children and a traveling doctor from Mason.

The home occupied by Fritz and Lena Durst was built in 1886 by Fritz and his brothers. The enormous hand-hewn logs have weathered well the passage of time. This home remains in the Durst family and is owned by Fritz and Lena's grandson, Clinton W. Durst, the only child of Frederick Theodore Durst and Minna Medora 'Meta' Leifeste.
