Wilma Earl Strasser, 90, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away on May 3, 2012 in Greybull, WY at the home of Bernie and Virginia Jensen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the LDS Chapel located at 2555 S. Stoddard Road in Meridian, Idaho. Friends may meet with the family beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Wilma was born on Dec. 19, 1921 to Kenneth Owen Earl and Vertie Ann Leavitt and grew up in Bunkerville, NV where her father operated a mercantile store. She met George Arthur Strasser while in the fifth grade and they were friends through high school, even attending prom together. She received a vocal scholarship attending Dixie College, then BYU, and College of Idaho; finishing with a teaching certificate.

During WW2 she and George reconnected, courting by mail, and were married in the St George Temple on May 11, 1943 while he was on leave. She returned to Idaho to await his discharge, teaching grade school in Meridian off and on over many years.

She is the mother of eight children and balanced raising a large family, supporting her husband who worked in home construction, and serving faithfully as a member of the LDS Church in her beloved Relief Society to benefit the lives of many families in the Meridian area.

Another of her joys was singing, as a "Singing Mother" or in her Ward Choir, and making music a part of her home. In later years she served with her husband in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple for 11 years, one of her most treasured times.

Wilma is survived by her sister, Ann (Don) Danes; brother, Dean (Laura) Earl; children, Linda (Jim) Strikwerda, Virginia (Bernie) Jensen, Charles (Rana), Leon (Janie), Michael (Shar), Calista (Gary) Laney and George Earl (Lorna); 45 grandchildren; and 94 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; daughter, Irene; brothers, Ken, Larry and Lewis Earl; sister, Alice Packard; grandson, Bradley Strikwerda; and a great-granddaughter, Kate Jensen.

The family is especially grateful to Virginia and Bernie for the loving care and compassionate service they gave our mother the past six years.
