Nucla – Longtime Nucla rancher, 81 year old Ernest Floyd "Ernie" Symons died on Friday, May 15, 1998, at his home in Nucla.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Monday, May 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the hale and Gerken Funeral Home of Naturita.
Funeral Services to honor and celebrate Mr. Symons life will be officiating by Marlon Halbokken on Tuesday, May 19, at 2 p.m. from the Hale and Gerken Funeral Home Chapel in Naturita.
Interment will follow the service in Dallas Park Cemetery at Ridgeway, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Hale and Gerken Funeral Home of Naturita.
Ernest Floyd Symons, the son of James and Linda May (Johnston) Symons, was born on June 15, 1916, in Canon City, Colo. Where he spent his childhood received his education, and grew to adulthood,
Mr. Symons was married on March 6, 1937 in Montrose, Colorado to Wilma G Price who preceded him in death on June 2, 1997.
Mr. Symons had made his home in Nucla for over 60 years where he resided until the time of his death.
He is survived by two sons; William Lavern Symons and wife Trish, of Orangeville, Ontario, Canada; Donald Dale Symons and wife Lela, of Houston Texas: three daughters: Ernamae Joyce Smith, of Houston Texas; Esther Ella Case, of Nucla; Kimberly Kay Symons, of Durango;
Also survived are his grandchildren: Shelda Hayes, Treven Smith, Tommy Bacus, Timmie Sue Edgerley, Tonya Gillaspy, Mike Bacus, Kelly Symons, Stacie Symons, Curt Symons, Miles Symons, Amanda Symons, Savana Symons, Erika Symons as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Symons was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ethel Foster and four brothers Arthur Symons, Lawrence Symons, Alfred Symons, and Albert Symons.
He was a member of the Non-Denominational Church of Christ and former member of the Nucla-Naturita Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Symons main love and enjoyment in life was ranching and horseback riding.
