Age 86, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2000, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 6, 1914, in Appleton, the son of the late John and Nellie (William) Stoffel Sr. Fred served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated the Ranch Bar, formerly Kelly's Bar on Wisconsin Avenue, for many years. He also was employed by Appleton Coated Papers, and by the Appleton School System at Johnston School as an engineer. He was a lifetime member of St. Therese Parish in Appleton; he served as an usher and at the parish picnic was known as "The Peanut Man." He also enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, playing cards, especially cribbage, as he had five perfect hands in his life, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also volunteered at St. Joseph Food Pantry. Fritz had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Stoffel, Appleton; daughters, Diane Stoffel, Paula (William) Sutter, Mary (Roger) Philippi; sons, Robert (Roberta) Stoffel, Peter (Judy) Stoffel, Steven (Mary) Stoffel, Timothy (Cathy) Stoffel; brothers, Clement and Herbert (Fran) Stoffel; sisters, Sister Benigna Stoffel, Sister Therese Ann Stoffel, Dolores (George) Vander Heiden, and Therese (Carol) Schroeder; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and a sister-in-law, Billie Pasch. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John (Ethel) Stoffel Jr., and Clair (Marie) Stoffel; a sister, Sister Jonnella Stoffel; a son and a daughter in infancy; a grandchild, Jessica; a sister-in-law, Phil Stoffel; and a brother-in-law, Earl Pasch.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 29, 2000, at 2 p.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church on Morrison Street and Wisconsin Avenue with the Rev. Daniel Gilsdorf officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 12 Noon until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.

The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Brian Avery and his staff for their wonderful care, and also to the people at Hospice, especially Jim for his tender car of Dad, and to his brothers and sisters and friends for all of their kind support.
