Mr. Willie Gay Bennett of Roanoke Rt. 5, age 77, passed away in the Earnest Memorial Hospital, Franklin, at 10 o'clock Saturday night, May 2.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her husband, Gordon Bennett; 4 sons, Lunnie Gay of LaGrange, Luther Gay and Austin Gay of Eustis, Fla., and Jesse T. Gay of LaFayette: 3 daughters, Mrs. Burtis Brown of LaGrange, Mrs. Bertha Jeffers of Roanoke Rt. 5, and Mrs. Annie Cunningham of Roanoke Rt. 3; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, T. W. Veal of Florida, O. T. Veal of Lanett, Jesse Veal of LaGrange, and Bob Veal of Roanoke, and 3 sisters, Mrs. Carrie Burks and Mrs. Mittie Manley of Roanoke and Mrs. Zera Shelnutt of Langdale.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bennett were conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the
Beulah Baptist Church by Rev. J. T. Rollins and Rev. Chester Freeman. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Quattlebaum's Brown Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Her full name was Willie Dee Veal Gay Bennett. Her parents were William Oliver Veal and Mary Dora Boyd. After Thomas Jefferson Gay died Willie D. Gay married Thomas Gordon Bennett after his wife Hattie Pearl Gay Bennett had passed away.
