Mrs. Velma E. Winchell, 73, Topeka, died Saturday morning in a Topeka hospital. She had a heart ailment.
She was born Oct. 8, 1903 in Summerfield. She had lived in Topeka since 1942.
She was an employee of Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veteran of Foreign Wars for 10 years. She was an employee of the Topeka Police Dept. 10 years until she retired Oct. 21, 1971. She attended the Methodist Church.
Two sons preceded her in death; Lloyd D. Winchell in infancy and Robert G. Winchell on Dec. 22, 1976. Survivors include a son, Donald E. Winchell, Horton; a daughter, Mrs. Faye Edmonds, Topeka; a brother, Roy Alexander, Troy, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Hattie Wise, Palm Beach, Fla.; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
