Ethel Abler, 89, of 1200 Huntington Ave., died at 2:45 a.m. Sat. Jan. 12, 1991, at her home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Andrew Karoblis will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Abler was born July 23, 1901, in the Portage County town of Carson, to Cornelius and Anna VanAsten. She married Benedict W. Abler, Oct. 27, 1926, in Rudolph. He died July 6, 1977. They moved from the Rudolph area to Wisconsin Rapids in 1942.

She did home care for many years and was a member of the Womens Club of SS Peter & Paul, Sons of Norway, and Senior Citizens of Wisconsin Rapids. She was also active in woodworking and stitchery.

Survivors include six sons, LeRoy, of Oakland CA; Merlin, of Burlington; Norman, of Madison; Lawrence, of Appleton; Louis, of Wisconsin Rapids; and Ronald, of Forestville CA; three daughters, Catherine Billman and Joyce Hanson, both of Wisconsin Rapids, and Cyrilla Back, Vesper; 37 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one brother, Simon VanAsten, Rudolph; and one sister, Lucina Fuller, Vesper. She was predeceased by one sister, two brothers and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at Higgins Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday. A rosary parish service will be at 7:30 p.m Tuesday at the funeral home.
