STEPHEN COGSWELL, b. Sept. 1, 1771, at New Preston, Conn.; Mr. Cogswell was a farmer and mill-owner, also captain of the militia; a strong and courageous man; he m. (1) in May, 1791, Anna Camp of New Preston, Conn. Mrs. C. d. Oct. 22, 1810. Capt. Cogswell m. (2) Dec. 11, 1811, Susannah Whittlesey, b. at South Farms, Conn., Feb. 12, 1784. Mrs. Susannah (W.) Cogswell d. Feb. 19, 1823. Capt. Cogswell m. (3) Dec. 23, 1823, Rachel G. Seymour, b. Oct. 27, 1786, d. Nov. 20, 1864; they lived in New Preston, Conn. Capt. Cogswell d. Oct. 29, 1837; his death was by accident; he was run over by a carriage, having his foot and leg badly crushed; he endured amputation without being held or tied upon the table, but died in two days. Mrs. Rachel C. d. Nov. 20, 1864.
