Leonard Dies, Funeral is Set for Friday
Howard (Smiley) Leonard died Monday at the Veteran's home in Spokane.
He had been there almost two weeks.
Leonard had been employed by the state highway department for the last
10 years and had worked out of Ritzville.
The funeral has been scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
the Danekas Funeral home with the Rev. Donald Cramer officiating.
Leonard was born on July 6, 1913, at Ralston but had lived in Ritzville
most of his life. He was a member of the Christian church, a veteran of
World War II, and a member of the Eagles lodge at Ritzville.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and three daughters, Sharon, Karen
and Lynn at the Ritzville home. Other survivors include three sisters,
Mrs. Virgil Sitton of Washtucna, Mrs. Edward Kinzel of Reno, Nev., and
Miss Margaret Leonard of Ritzville.
Surviving brothers are Carl Leonard of Loveland, Colo., and Dean and
Robert Leonard, both of Buckley.
The pallbearers at the funeral are to be Martin Elliott, Lewis Lobe,
Robert Fickle, J. Austin Miller, Marvin Stelzer and Gary Marshall.
Honorary pallbearers are to include Ruben Rehn, Dan Schafer, Robert
Stanfield, Orville Ahern, Jed Rowe, Carl Thaut, Harry Werttemberger,
Gus Klettke, Harold Schmidt and Alex Werner.
