Dora Leonard Services Set at 1:30 today
Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Leonard will be held today at
1:30 at the chapel of Danekas Funeral home.
She died December 19 at Hillcrest manor where she had
lived for three and a half months.
Mrs. Leonard was born in Pike county, Illinois, on March 15,
1878. She had been a resident of Adams county for 78 years.
She and her husband, Otis Leonard, farmed the place her husband's
father, Gideon Leonard, had homesteaded in 1888 in the Rattlesnake
Flats district.
In 1919 they moved to Washtucna, living there until 1927 when
Leonard bought the O. H. Greene home in Ritzville. Mrs. Leonard
had lived here since then. Her husband preceded her in death in
1929.
She was a member of the Christian church at Washtucna.
Three daughters survive. They are Mrs. Virgil Sitton of Washtucna,
Mrs. Edward Kinzel of Reno, Nev., and Margaret Leonard of Ritzville.
Five sons survive, Raymond of Ralston, Carl of Loveland, Colo.,
Dean and Robert of Buckley and Howard of Ritzville.
There are 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Three other children preceded their mother in death.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard were married on Christmas day, 1895 at the
First Congregational church, then located on a site where a
hospital later stood and where the office belonging to Dr. Charles G. Smick now stands. The Rev. John Lockwood performed the
wedding ceremony.
The Rev. Ralph Smith of the Community church, Washtucna,
will conduct the funeral service. Milton Sackmann will sing "In The Garden" and "No Night There." Mrs. Orville Moeller will be his
organ accompanist.
Concluding services and burial are to be in the Bemis cemetery
about six miles from Ralston. Pallbearers will be Robert Sitton,
Bennie Sitton, Charles Leonard, Willard Leonard, Rollin Smith and Lloyd Spring.
